The Organizations behind the Conference

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) will this year host the Annual Meeting of the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) which is held jointly with the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST). The Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) is a nonprofit, professional association. It was founded in 1975 and now has an international membership of over 1200. The main purpose of 4S is to bring together those interested in understanding science, technology, and medicine, including the way they develop and interact with their social contexts. European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) has been in existence since 1994 and has nearly a thousand members. Members are located mainly within Europe but include those in the rest of the world. EASST’s objective is to foster within Europe the scholarly study of science and technology including their historical development and their role in society. More specific aims include:
  • improving scholarly communication and exchange in the field
  • increasing the visibility of the subject to policy-makers and to the general public
  • stimulating and supporting teaching on the subject at all levels
Copenhagen Business School (CBS) has 18,000 students and an annual intake of 1,500 exchange students. With this number of students as well as 600 full-time researchers and 600 administrative employees, CBS is one of the largest business schools in Europe. Copenhagen Business School (also referred to as CBS) was established in 1917 by the Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education (now known as FUHU) (text in Danish) as a private educational institution. FUHU would in Danish be: Forening for Unge Handelsmænds Uddannelse. In 1965 the business school gradually integrated into the Danish education system as an institution of higher education. Today CBS is regulated by the Danish Universities Act of 2003. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "CBS Sustainability Platform" is proud supporter of this event!
Facilitating development of research, education and outreach activities on sustainability at CBS!
The CBS Sustainability Platform exists to facilitate development of research, educational and outreach activities on sustainability at CBS. It is established to serve as a catalyst and communicator of knowledge that can be used in addressing the grand challenges associated with ensuring social, environmental and economic sustainability in society.

At Copenhagen Business School we recognize that sustainability represents not only a major challenge but also a unique opportunity for universities, companies, NGOs, public authorities and individuals to collaborate and create new knowledge useful to society as a whole. This calls for increased efforts within and across disciplinary boundaries within and beyond CBS.

The CBS Sustainability Platform does not emerge by itself or by isolated silo-thinking. We need to join forces across CBS disciplines and departments to develop innovative research, teaching and outreach initiatives on sustainability. Most importantly, we need good colleagues to make the journey happen.
