At an event last week in Helsinki, jointly organized by the Finnish Pension Alliance (TELA) and the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA), I gave a talk on the Danish pension system, entitled "Challenges and learning points in the Danish pension system".
The event was held in Musiikkitalo - the Helsinki Music Centre - and was attended by nearly 100 persons from "pension community" in Helsinki.
The background to the seminar was new research concerning the long-term financial sustainability of the Finnish earnings-related pension system and how it distributes aggregate risks across generations.
The organizers wanted a broad debate of this in the context of recent reforms and reform proposals regarding the Danish and Dutch pension systems - which by the Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index are ranked # 1 and 2 in the world.
